Stray Blue, the Greek indie trio, is back with “Wake Up & Smile,” a dynamic two-track EP that may not say everything, but does so in under seven minutes. Out today, July 18, 2025, in a limited edition 7-inch vinyl, the EP includes the acoustic version of the title track, "Wake Up & Smile," and the achingly beautiful "Moody Sky," featuring world-renowned cellist Yoed Nir. Longtime fans and newcomers coming to Stray Blue for the first time will find the perfect entry point in this EP: it is honest, heartfelt, and unmistakably human.
This latest album is a buckle on an air safety mask for the last 20 years, and there’s as much reason to think frontman and driving force Frank Turner will be in the departure lounge any time soon, not when he keeps making music like this, raw, emotional, and unapologetic. Stray Blue strips things down to basics, featuring warm acoustic instrumentation, introspective songwriting, and melodies.
The tender arm around the shoulders is extended once again on the opener to the EP “Wake Up & Smile - Acoustic Version.” The delicate guitar and minimal production of the song add an extra layer of vulnerability to its lyrics, an anthem to resilience, quiet hope, and choosing light in the face of darkness. It’s a morning mantra, shoehorned into the familiarity of Stray Blue’s indie-folk ethos. On the other hand, “Moody Sky” deepens the emotional pitch with the cinematic sweep of Yoed Nir’s cello. It travels like a slow storm across the horizon, a melancholic yet hopeful statement. Nir’s airy string arrangements elevate the song to the realm of the sublime and bathe Stray Blue’s moving lyrics in an elegant, quasi-orchestral vibe.
Taken together, the two tracks provide an immersive experience that feels both close-up and wide-angled. Short as it may be, “Wake Up & Smile” is subdued and powerful, a reminder that no matter what happens, Stray Blue remain one of the most emotionally impactful presences on the Greek independent music circuit. “Wake Up & Smile” is now streaming widely and is also available on limited edition vinyl.
