Machine Gun Kelly isn't just brushing off the haters, but he's laughing at the noise and tossing it over his shoulder like yesterday's fashion critique. In a refreshingly candid moment ahead of his upcoming album Lost Americana, MGK sat down with People and made it loud and clear: he's not here for your fragile egos.
Over the years, MGK, born Colson Baker, has become just as known for his bold fashion choices and genre-defying music as he has for his very public relationship with Megan Fox. But with all that attention has come a wave of hate, mostly from, well, dudes who can't seem to handle the freedom MGK embodies.

"I became so hated for what has become apparent to me, no reason," he said. "Just because I artistically express myself, through fashion, music, whatever – because I choose not to stay contained in a societal box.
And while you might expect him to be bitter about it, MGK says the hate has become amusing. "The hate for me has become so pop culture that it's almost like that's automatically what you say to fit in," he said with a shrug. "That s**t doesn't even mean anything to me. I've let it go completely to where I'm like, 'Oh, that's a joke.'"
It's not just trolls in the comments section that have his attention, but it's the deeper, more toxic undercurrent of male insecurity that he's calling out. "I think people just don't like that I do whatever the f**k I want and it's a reflection of them not being able to do whatever they want," MGK pointed out. "I think men let their insecurity rule their entirety."
When someone dares to show up fully, to be bold, loud, messy, colorful, emotional, it tends to make those who are stuck in their self-constructed boxes feel a little... itchy.
Still, MGK isn't here to win them over, but he's just hoping his new record gives people a chance to see beyond the surface. "Maybe this time," he said, "they'll get to know the man-slash-broken-boy behind the moniker MGK."
Lost Americana drops Friday, and whether you're a longtime fan or someone who's only seen the headlines, you should give this one a spin. Because he is loved or hated, Machine Gun Kelly is showing up exactly as he is, and in a world full of copy-paste personas, that's worth paying attention to.
