Based in Oslo and born in Kyoto, experimental electronic artist, producer, and composer Sienná returns with "Ema." This full nine-track album takes her distinctive East-meets-West approach into another ambitious chapter. Continuing the cross-cultural exploration she began with the 2023 concept album "Wa-Kei-Sei-Jyaku," "Ema" pushes her music further into a wider intersection of cinematic, drum & bass, ambient, glitch, and Japanese traditional influences.
Across 44 minutes and 39 seconds, "Ema" unfolds as a collection of nine image-to-sound syntheses written down in nature. The album is non-linear, and Sienná's commitment means that each song enhances a larger conceptual experience. "Be A Seeker, Believer" has an exploratory spirit, while "Your Facts My Facts" offers contrast and perspective.
The album's reflective, searching character is further amplified by its titles, with the title track "Ema" at its center, followed by "Aenaria," "369 (Miroku)," and "Finding Inner Sanctuary." "The Majestic," "A Messenger," and "From Here To Where You Are" continue the journey, completing an album that wanders through ideas of discovery, connection, spirituality, communication, and distance.
Sienná's embrace of non-linear music becomes a conscious way to explore what can remain human in digitally synthesized music. The project has a strong artistic identity based on the idea of perfect imperfection, without being limited to a single genre.
