Clay Benjack unleashes a sonic escape from the ordinary with "Melt"

Some music is meant to be listened to, but Clay Benjack's new single, "Melt," is intended to be felt. Made entirely in the confines of his rickety little apartment in Norfolk, Virginia, this instrumental journey defies its humdrum origins, whisking you off to wide, dreamscape spaces where sound moves fluidly like water, and the limits of time are as flexible as the structures that contain it.

"Melt," inspired by the natural beauty found in places like Ireland and Acadia National Park, is simultaneously an escape and an exploration testimony that music, in its very nature, can reach far beyond the room in which it was recorded when things are done right.

Benjack's signature touch can be heard in the fluid motion of the guitar, whose notes rise and fall like waves, courtesy of his expert manipulation of the Chase Bliss Mood pedal. As the song progresses, meandering layers of stuttered, rhythmic guitar run through a bit of crusher whirl with ethereal reverb, shimmery delays, and sweeping phasers, creating a hypnotic vortex of sound.

"Melt" is every note breathes, every effect complements, and every beat pulls you further into Benjack's universe. After roughly 15 years of guitar refinement, Benjack is still determined to find a soundscape that is distinctly his. "Melt" is an invitation to relinquish control, to float and evaporate into a soundscape where possibilities are unlimited when imagining.
