Marma Lads drops a love letter to '70s soft rock with "Slip Away

London's juiciest racket powerhouse, Marma Lad, is back with his second release, "Slip Away," a groove some bast, a sunburnt memory, but one that thumps along the trampoline of self-doubt. Marma Lad's signature cynicism shines, and self-reflection becomes a melodic confession.

"Slip Away" glides over a breezy bossa nova drum machine groove, ferrying smooth, hypnotic chords that sound like a late-night drive through neon-streaked streets. Fans of Steely Dan and America can find comfort in its warmth, but just as you settle into the dream, a Fleetwood Mac-style guitar solo rips through, tearing the calm apart with raw emotion. The track builds to a thundering outro, the audible fraying of control, an expulsion of repressed fury.

"Slip Away" proves that, occasionally, the best response to your struggles is to soundtrack them with a groove this irresistible, ideally. "Slip Away" is a mood, a moment, a marvelous and magnificent epiphany of one's sonorous cave of psyche, and Slip Away is a song you won't want to slip away.
