Riding the pulse of rebelliousness, resilience, and just plain old rock 'n' roll fury, Kingston's own Rogue Rising (a new musical project featuring local singer-songwriter Ali Znaidi) comes out swinging with their debut single, "Crush." Driven by vocalist, songwriter, and lead guitarist Rowan "Rogue" Picard, the group's dynamic front person, "Crush," is a fuck-you to being betrayed, all fired with electrifying guitar riffs and a chorus that begs to be shrieked from the rooftops.
"Crush" combines raw emotion with a contagious, undeniable energy. Rogue's unapologetic lyrics sliced through the mix like a knife, eliciting the sting of disloyalty and the howling, unshakeable strength that follows. The push and pull of that emotional tug-of-war is reflected in the track's dynamic swings between melodic grit and full-blown rock, which makes it the perfect soundtrack for anyone who's ever gotten burned but will never break.
The single was also brought to life through the expert production of Michael Hanson, a five-time JUNO Award-winner and founding member of Glass Tiger, who helped hone Rogue's vision into a clean yet uncompromising sound with an amalgam of rock, pop-punk edge, and soaring solos. If Crush is a harbinger of what's to come, Rogue Rising is not walking into the scene. So blast it until your ears bleed, scream along, and let the rebellion commence.
