Stone Deaf sharpen their edge with "Focus"

Stone Deaf's new single, "Focus," was conceived in a single day and recorded on the same day as their last release, "Red Head," in an explosive, freewheeling session in South Wales with producer James Weaver. It is a track distilled to its most rudimentary form, without the overproduction or second-guessing that is often the band's hallmark.

"Focus" provides an end-of-the-world, wide-open throttle rock energy that goes straight to the soul. Lean and raw, with hardly a take on it and a determination to deliver their pure, unvarnished sound, Stone Deaf demonstrates that sometimes the best statement is to believe in the flame of the moment.

The telephone-box guitar leads, which get the treatment of a "Third Man" pitch-shifting pedal, lend the song a signature fray raw but hardly accidental. That right mix of instinct and skill makes Stone Deaf stand apart on the current rock scene. "Focus" is more than just a song that Stone Deaf is dropping: no gimmicks, no gloss, just a band locked in, loud and unapologetically themselves.
