50 Cent has just had a massive victory in his ever-growing empire in Shreveport, Louisiana. The rapper and media mogul signed a 30-year lease on the city's Stageworks Building in a bold attempt to transform the building into a lucrative entertainment center. And if you know 50, you know he's about to do something big.
However, things took an unexpected turn at the Shreveport City Council meeting on Tuesday (March 25) when 50 Cent himself showed up, surprising city officials and attendees alike. With that familiar braggadocio, he jokingly asked the council members, "I'm looking at all these faces and I'm trying to see who won't be voting for me."
Well, as it turned out, they were all on board. The council voted to approve the deal and grant G-Unit Film & Television the right to take control of the Stageworks facility. Wait, what? Under the terms of the agreement, 50's company will be paying $200 a month in rent. That's right, $ 200.
You better believe there's more to it than that. G-Unit will also manage and run the building, ensuring it remains a hub of entertainment activity. Even after performing in front of huge crowds for decades, 50 Cent said he felt unusually anxious ahead of the council's decision.
"You know, I was in places with a lot of people. And I've never been this nervous before," he admitted after the vote.
But once the approval was official, that anxiety shifted to celebration. Stageworks Building will become a versatile venue engineered to host everything from professional and amateur sports competitions to MMA and boxing matches, car exhibitions, conventions, and seminars. It's part of 50's grander plan to make Shreveport a major entertainment destination.
50's ties to Shreveport are already strengthening. He said the city is beginning to feel like home, and judging from his recent moves, that's not just talk.
"I just want to say, a short time, I've come to like the people of Shreveport in a different way. It's home away from home for me, and it will be home sooner or later because I have so much work here."
That work is set to officially get underway in just days, as the lease begins seven days after the mayor signs the agreement. After securing the deal, 50 posted on Instagram to celebrate, saying, "All Roads Lead to Shreveport! Stop hating, it's show time."
And if history has taught us anything, it gets done when 50 Cent decides to do something. In his own words, he over-delivers. Shreveport, you can thank me later.
