The never-ending saga between former Diplomats bandmates Cam'ron and Jim Jones has taken another sharp turn, with Cam'ron firing back at Capo over claims of an unfair Verzuz deal. There must be some heavy tension and bad blood on money moves, even decades after their legendary rap crew made headlines.
Jim Jones blamed Cam'ron and Swizz Beatz for making a deal behind his back for the long-awaited Verzuz showdown between Dipset and The Lox. But Cam'ron was not going to let that narrative soar. Then, on Sunday night (March 2), Cam'ron hit Instagram with "the files," sharing a clip of Jones' words with a text message that mirrors a different tale.
In the message, Jones seeks to get the Verzuz battle rolling to the point where he is even willing to do so for free. "To me, this opportunity is bigger than life; it's not about money," Jones wrote, describing the battle as a once-in-a-lifetime "ultimate bucket list" moment. He even offered his share of the earnings to Cam'ron to ensure that the event happened because he thought it would open some significant doors for both of them as group and individual artists. "But really, I just wanna touch that stage in a big way," he continued. "If I have to take a loss to make a gain, I'm willin' to.
Cam'ron didn't argue that the event was never about money but highlighted a more significant issue: other people were making real money from their legacies. "(Supreme, etc.) Swizz and them ain't pay nobody," he said, referencing the original Verzuz deal. "Then sold the company for 40/50 m's.
Cameron, never one to pull any punches, went further in his caption, calling out Jim Jones for attempting to "rewrite history." "I don't pay half the s### n##### say no mind," he said. "But, you know, I file the file. You wanted to do Verzuz for free n####. So if you made a dollar, enjoy it. Talking bout it was on ya bucket list…"
This latest exchange is just one more example of the love-hate relationship that has characterized Cam'ron and Jim's relationship over the years. Although they have thousands of classic moments together as Dipset members, their grievances behind the scenes sometimes go into the public eye. And if recent history is anything to go by, this could be far from the last we hear of the Verzuz drama.
Adding to the fire, Jim Jones also challenged Cam'ron to a $10 million boxing match, which Cam'ron laughed off. A chat with Floyd Mayweather left the co-hosts of Cam'ron and his "It Is What It Is" podcast in stitches and pointed to the fact that he's not taking the fight proposal seriously. At this point, what will happen between these two is anyone's guess. But one thing's sure: Cam'ron saves receipts and isn't shy about using them.
