Mathew Knowles Puts Kanye West on Notice, ‘There Will Be Consequences’

Regarding family, Mathew Knowles doesn’t play, and he’s making sure Kanye West knows that loudly and clearly. The music mogul and father of international superstar Beyoncé has spoken out after West’s most recent incendiary comments, cautioning that the rapper’s damaging rhetoric will not go unaddressed.

Kanye West has never been afraid of stirring the pot, but his words hit home this time. The outspoken rapper recently came for Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s 7-year-old twins, Rumi and Sir Carter, with a string of disgusting social media posts. His comments, which included slurs doubting the children’s mental faculties, drew immediate backlash.

“Stupidity has a price, especially in music,” Knowles said on Friday (March 21), indicating that West’s actions won’t come free.

Knowles also addressed West’s well-documented mental health challenges, saying that while his behavior frustrates him, he wishes the rapper the best and hopes he receives the help he needs. “I do hope that Kanye gets the type of help he needs around mental health,” he added.

While Mathew Knowles’ response was forthright, the rest of the Knowles family took a less direct approach to addressing the situation. Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, posted on social media on Wednesday (March 19) many believe was directed at West’s recent outbursts.

She cracked a quick, cheeky, pointed joke: “What happens when a snowman throws a tantrum? He has a meltdown.”

“It’s tough to stay positive and classy amid ignorance and evil,” she wrote. “But I know that none of those weapons are formed against me, or my family shall prosper. The battle is not mine but the Lord’s. I know that God’s got this.”

It was a classy response, but the subtext was clear: the Knowles clan won’t be taking this lying down.

West’s offensive posts weren’t limited to cruel name-calling. He further claimed Beyoncé had conceived Rumi and Sir through in vitro fertilization (IVF), a claim that generated even more controversy. But it was his most incendiary comment, “Having r** children is a choice,” that sparked outrage.

After getting a fierce reaction, he deleted the posts but reposted them, saying that he regretted having deleted them. He even accused Jay-Z of pressuring him to take down the original remarks.

Mathew Knowles’ warning indicates that this is never going to end nicely. Though the Knowles family has historically conducted themselves with grace under public scrutiny, there’s a deep understanding that West’s statements have gone too far and can’t be brushed aside.
