Reginae Carter is not new to the spotlight, but she's all about respect and growth in her heart. Lil Wayne's daughter opens up about why she ended her relationship with YFN Lucci during his imprisonment in a new interview; Chaunteel spoke candidly about her life with Carlos King on his podcast 'Reality With The King.'
Sometimes, love doesn't conquer everything, and Reginae's relationship's realities become more significant than the feelings she once had for him. "I was 19, and it's been a long time," she remembers falling hard for Lucci and affectionately calling him Ray. He was 27 then and already a father of four. The appeal of his lifestyle as a rapper was familiar to her, given how she was raised, and their chemistry felt organic.
"I don't know, I was 19… I feel like I've always had a crush on him," Reginae said. "And then he just came, he looked like what I was used to. He came courting me, gave me what I like."
It wasn't only his charm; his work and prominence reflected the world she was used to, and the relationship felt comfortable. But as their romance ignited, fractures in their foundation became impossible to ignore.
When Reginae spilled some more tea, it was a bitter brew: She said she had been inundated with other women reaching out to her, claiming that Lucci was cheating on her. "I'm saying don't date these rappers 'cause they are just no good," she said bluntly. You enjoy them," And listen, that's what I was in love with. I don't know how to have fun; I'm a lover girl."
For Reginae, love was not a game; they loved fiercely and wanted others to do the same. But the breaking point, she said, was when she learned of Lucci's affair with a woman he's still with today. In hindsight, she says a younger version of herself would have been able to wait for him, but not anymore.
"I was young, and I was definitely willing to probably… I was probably willing to wait," she confessed. "But you know, he has a girlfriend now. That's been around."
Lucci and this other woman had an overlapping relationship, according to Reginae, spanning from when they were together until his arrest in 2021. It hurt, though, no doubt, and she's learned to deal with it, acknowledging that growth is to be found in moving on.
"Yeah, it did hurt," she admitted, "but I can't complain." "But then I feel like I forgive him as well. Because I was young, it's like, hey, and it's some things that girl would do that I probably wasn't going to do." And that's just what it is."
Despite the murderous heartbreak, Reginae is at peace with the decision and harbors no ill will. She "was even pleased" about Lucci's recent release from prison and wished him "nothing but the best" as they continued their lives.
"I'm certainly happy for him," she said finally. "I'm happy that he's out with his family and safe, and we move on."
YFN Lucci, born Rayshawn Lamar Bennett, was charged with several serious crimes, such as felony murder and aggravated assault. Though he was initially sentenced to 20 years, a plea deal made him eligible for parole after time served, and he was released earlier this year. Reginae's chapter with Lucci is closed, and she's ready to live happily ever after with self-love, enlightenment, and new beginnings.
