Suge Knight is pouring more salt on the wound with Snoop Dogg as the longtime feud continues between the two in the courtroom and on the mic, with Knight taking shots at Snoop's leadership of Death Row Records. In an interview this week with The Art of Dialogue, Knight did not hold back, saying that during his time, Death Row was churning out hits while under Snoop, it's a shell of its former self.
Knight's comments came after Snoop's most recent comments countersuing decades-long murmurs that the Doggystyle great, himself, had anything to do with the 1996 killing of 2Pac. Snoop responded to the claims with accusations of bitterness on behalf of Knight, suggesting his frustration is rooted in him no longer owning Death Row. But Suge doesn't care for that narrative.
"Snoop, you said I'm mad 'cause you bought Death Row." "What did you buy? Please show me where you all paid the money to purchase it. Please show me the paperwork and what you own.
Knight didn't stop there but fired shots at Snoop's executive track record, saying the days when the label could be said to have gold under the hood were over. Knight said the label's output has put out under Snoop's leading pales compared to the legendary run the label had in the '90s.
"Everything you going to create something that Suge Knight created, but you didn't create, you didn't make it big, you just let the world down on all flops," Knight would add, directly letting Snoop know he thinks he's bobbled the bag with Death Row's revival.
Snoop Dogg has stepped up as its torchbearer after buying Death Row from MNRK Music Group in 2022. But Knight believes the results speak for themselves and aren't encouraging. He contrasted the success of "Tha Dogg Pound" original releases when overseeing them with their recent work to imply that Snoop's leadership has not delivered commercially or culturally impactful music.
"When I release "Tha Dogg Pound," they sold records," Knight said. "You put out a 'Tha Dogg Pound' album; it didn't do anything. You and Dre got together, Andre says this the best album he ever did his whole life, we couldn't tell because it came and went so quickly."
Snoop hasn't hesitated to answer Suge's barbs. West Coast rap legend took to Instagram to shrug off the claims, implying that Knight is bitter because Death Row is no longer in his grip.
"This n#### keeps my name in his mouth," Snoop wrote. "Mad cuz I own Death Row. I realize your real lies."
In addition to questioning Snoop's credentials as an executive, Knight also made a host of other bombshell claims, including that he turned a joint-venture deal between Snoop and his Doggystyle label, which was under the Death Row umbrella, into a wrongful conviction scheme to send an artist to prison. He also alleged that Snoop still owed him money from a past deal.
The Death Row saga shows no signs of dying down, with Knight and Snoop's longtime beef as hot as ever. While Snoop is trying to reexplore the label for a new generation, Knight maintains that what he built will never be duplicated. So, Can Snoop ever return Death Row to glory, or is Knight right about the label's demise?
