Tyra Banks is preparing to take her rightful place in the modeling world. Having made a jaw-dropping, surprise return to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in October 2024, the 51-year-old icon has now re-signed with IMG Models. Tyra is ensuring this marks a brand-new start.
"Coming back to my IMG family feels like coming home but this isn't just a comeback, it's a new beginning," Banks told WWD. And if history has taught us anything, when Tyra Banks has a vision, she creates a movement.
When she burst onto the scene in the '90s, Tyra Banks broke barriers. She became the first Black American woman to appear on the covers of GQ and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, opening doors for industry diversity. She strutted into pop culture history as a Victoria's Secret Angel from 1997 to 2005. She took over the television world with America's Next Top Model, mentoring generations of would-be models.
Now, Banks is entering this new chapter in her career with a global strategy and renewed perspective, thanks to a partnership with IMG, which she has turned to once again. The agency added that it would focus on securing editorial profiles and top-tier fashion, beauty, and lifestyle placements.
"I returning with fresh eyes, electrifying energy, and an urge to make game-changing moves. And yes, I'm back to slay the runway again," Banks wrote. "The best is yet to come."
Her surprise return to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last year showed how much she still commands the stage. That reaction — from fans and industry insiders reignited something inside her, Banks said in Essence's 50th-anniversary cover story.
"I didn't know it was gonna blow up like it did. Now I'm modeling again, officially, she said. "I'm gonna sign with a Sydney agency. I'll have agencies in Paris." I'm going to be in New York. Like, I'm just gonna do this.
Banks has always been a confident woman and transparent influencer; she will make a difference again.
