Chris Brown Caught in Legal Firestorm After Superfan Sues Over Online Smear

The woman, Angela Reliford, who goes by chrisbrownzwife777 on the web, has just filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles alleging that Brown stepped over the line when he gave a spin to the video of her that he uploaded to his own incredibly popular social media pages. The post in question, for Reliford, not only humiliated her but placed her life in danger.

Brown reposted a highly edited video of Reliford last July. This wasn't your average fan tribute or humorous meme video. No, it was "scary" with what Reliford described as "very ominous, 'devil' music" and captions that implied that she was a danger to Brown and his dancers.

In the footage, Reliford tells everyone everything was taken out of context, and she says some questionable things: "Man, wait til I get my money right. If I gotta join a gang or do some mob s###, I don't care." She also spewed chilling comments about violence, asking: "Where can I legally kill? Because I'm coming for you. As soon as I can. It could be twenty years from now."

Brown offered a disclaimer for the clip: "I'm not trying to be mean at all. But this s### is scary!" a remark that didn't calm the waters.

Brown reposted the edited video without taking the time to investigate whether it was genuine or accurate, Reliford said. She says, "She was publicly humiliated, emotionally traumatized, and received threats and abuse."

In her lawsuit, Reliford lambastes Brown for his "reckless disregard for the truth" and takes him to task for using his platform to portray her as "dangerous and unstable" to his millions of followers. She's suing for invasion of privacy and being cast in a false light, both legal terms that PC means she thinks Brown's actions tarnished her rep beyond comprehension.

With all the noise blocking the original video's context, Reliford says the message has been lost. Now, she's fighting to get her voice back in court.

Chris Brown has not commented publicly on the lawsuit, and considering that the allegations are incredibly damaging, it's probably safe to say that this isn't another social media spat that will fizzle out if anybody still feels like paying attention. For now, court of public opinion arguments are being made, and all eyes are on how this battle between a superfan and her idol will play out.
