Michael B. Jordan, who stars as two dual characters, Smoke and Stack, in the new vampire thriller 'Sinners,' wasn't exactly fangirling over one aspect of the filming process, though: the blood a lot of it.
As they promoted the film, Jordan and his longtime collaborator Ryan Coogler opened up in a frank conversation with People. And when it comes to the gory special effects, Jordan didn't pull any punches.
"I liked the fangs. Fangs were dope," Jordan said. "There was a little bit of blood, and it got a little bit messy and uncomfortable at certain points. The blood was a lot."

Coogler, who collaborated with Jordan on the projects Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther, reflected on the surprise phone call to the producer's table. Jordan's aversion to the gooey gore made a meeting between Coogler, the producers, and his wife and producing partner Zinzi Coogler necessary.
"I got a call into a meeting a couple of weeks in by my producer and my wife Zinzi Coogler, and she was like, 'Hey, we gotta talk about Mike,'" Coogler said, laughing. "I'm like, 'What? What's going on?' And she's like, 'The blood, he doesn't like it.' I'm like, 'Wait, what?'"
It wasn't a full-blown meltdown, insists Jordan, a typical vampire venting at the end of the day.
"First of all, there's a difference between complaining and venting," he said, chuckling. "I was just kind of venting more, you know what I'm saying? But they love me, so they held a meeting. I appreciate the meeting."
'Sinners' is a new venture for both star and filmmaker, diving headfirst into supernatural territory with dual leads, vampire myth, and a healthy helping of stylized gore. But it also highlights that even seasoned pros have their quirks, particularly when gallons of red syrup pretend to be blood all around them.
You can drop Michael B. Jordan in the middle of a vampire melee, put fangs in his mouth, and have him play two roles at the same time, but maybe give him a heads-up before you soak him with fake blood.
Honestly, who can blame him for it? Even if you're immortal, messy is messy. It's another instance of the honest, behind-the-scenes moments that make movie magic seem more human and much funnier.
