Ray J Makes U-Turn on Diddy, From 1,000 Lashes to “Puffy Bout to Get Out”

January 2024, Ray J was putting it on the line on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast. He was incendiary and indignant, calling for public flogging: 1,000 lashes for Diddy, one for each person he allegedly aggrieved. Ray has even joked that someone Shannon Sharpe’s size would have to do the whipping because Ray J’s arms wouldn’t last beyond nine hits.

The singer-turned-entrepreneur has had a radical change of heart. Ray J told fans he now believes Diddy could potentially walk free from his mountain of legal woes while speaking on a live stream with YouTuber Sneako.

“Puffy ‘bout to get out too, dead homies,” Ray J announced, to the surprise of everyone tuning in. “All that s### they’re trying to do to Puff is wack, bro. The charges against him are because of what he did and no the charges aren’t it wasn’t about what he did but we all seen it and that shit ain’t cool but not what the charges are for. The charges suck, and it’s not funny and it’s not okay.”

It’s a bitch of a comeback, especially considering the heat Ray J was packing just a few short months earlier. And it surely raises many eyebrows about what could have caused this unexpected change of heart. Was it a deeper look at the legal paperwork? A little telephone whispering behind the scenes? Or perhaps just a bit more time to think it all through?

Diddy, 54, is still behind bars in New York, where he’s been held without bail since September 2024. His federal trial is now on the horizon, scheduled for May 5, 2025, after a judge nixed his demand for more time. The Bad Boy honcho is staring down a serious set of felony charges: racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and two counts of transportation of a person for prostitution. Charged: Prosecutors tell a seamy tale, alleging that Diddy steered a 20-year scheme that featured threats, drugs, and intimidation.

Although being accused would be a weight to bear for any man, Diddy remains strong and has pleaded not guilty to all allegations.

Ray J’s recent new outlook doesn’t erase his demand for 1,000 public lashes; fans have already noticed the flip-flop. Some see it as growing up; others sniff damage control. Either way, Ray J’s commentary has added more fuel to the flaming inferno that is the death of one of Hip-Hop’s biggest stars.

In this rapidly digitizing world where stars change their minds as quickly as a TikTok post, Ray J’s sudden reversal is a reminder that in the land of celebrity drama, legal or otherwise, you never know which way the wind is blowing.
