Damon Dash Faces Possible Arrest After Ignoring Court Orders in $4M Legal Battle

Music mogul Damon Dash, once the co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, and Webber have been in court since 2022 when a judge awarded Webber $805,000 for copyright breach and defamation. The case initially appeared to be cut and dried. Still, it has since escalated into a much more significant problem and culminated in Dash publicly mocking Webber in 2024, resulting in the director supposedly losing out on a big movie contract. Consequently, Webber filed an amended complaint, jacking the demand to an incredible $4 million.

While the case is down, as Dash has refused against discovery, red flags reportedly began to fly in court. Dash and his company, Poppington LLC, have flouted court-ordered discovery deadlines that are vital to obtaining the information needed to move the lawsuit forward. These deadlines have been in place since March 10, 2025, and a federal judge has given Dash until May 9, 2025, to accomplish them. If he does not, the court could issue a bench warrant, which could land him in jail.

Complicated matters Dash's legal team then filed to withdraw from the case, stating in court papers that he has "displayed a pattern of non-cooperation," including a refusal to "engage in any meaningful cooperation." They called him "indignant and hostile" in response to court orders and argued that Dash, who says he's threatened to file for bankruptcy, "has stated he will not agree to any plan proposed by his current attorney." This retreat could further muddy the waters for Dash, who must now confront a significant legal battle alone.

It's been an emotional rollercoaster for both Dash and Webber, with the two at each other's throats for most of the trial. Dash, who has a history of controversy, increasingly faces the unfriendly fire of attention from all sides as the litigation has dragged on. And for his part, Webber has only become more determined to hold this murderer to account as the stakes have gotten higher. What began as a somewhat modest legal claim has since swelled into a million-dollar battle, as Dash's failure to play by court rules now threatens to escalate the situation.

Dash risks serious consequences if he refuses to cooperate with the court's discovery orders. His failure to show up in court would probably result in a bench warrant, which might only add more problems to his legal and financial situation. Damon Dash is running out of possibilities with his legal team backing out and his bankruptcy plans in motion. By May 9, Dash will have to either obey the courts' code or risk going to jail again. Regardless of what happens next, this case is not over, and it appears the feud between Damon Dash and Josh Webber is just getting started.
