Lizzo's love story provides refreshing insight into how some outstanding bonds take time to develop. The powerhouse Grammy winner, also known as Melissa Jefferson, recently opened up about her relationship with comedian Myke Wright on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast and gave fans a glimpse at a journey nearly a decade in the making.
Before the celebrity, publicity, or red-carpet appearances, Lizzo and Myke were two artists working on MTV's Wonderland. She was the "music girl," and he was the "comedy guy," something unique grew between them when the programming aired.
"We both worked on this one TV show, for MTV," Lizzo said during the interview. "I was like, 'He's my best friend.' I didn't have any of my guy friends like that… but I was like, 'Wow, I can really talk to him.'"
It was a relationship that didn't necessitate fireworks or viral opportunities, but it existed. Their bond incubated behind the scenes for many years. As Lizzo told their story, it was a "friends-to-lovers" tale. The confidence and communication that emerged from a deep-rooted trust laid the groundwork for their partnership. According to the artist, their love finally sparked around 2022.
"I do love that we were friends first… so that also means I can talk about anything," Lizzo said affectionately. He's your best friend," the host, Jake Shane, said. "Literally," she said without blinking.
It's less of a love story and more of a Lizzo story, see? And it's not just temporary; she worsens with age. "I'm not going to be with anyone for the rest of my life," she explained on The Howard Stern Show.
With her upcoming fifth studio album, "Love in Real Life," Lizzo isn't only singing about love but also living it. When fans await the pop megastar's next musical chapter to unfurl, they'll be energized to see how she's creating her own story. Lizzo and Myke, on the other hand, are coming. So many incredible tales of romance begin not with flames but with discussions.
