Eye-popping came in one form in a name that emerged during the jury selection process for Sean "Diddy" Combs' pending federal sex-trafficking trial: Creed actor Michael B. Jordan. Though Jordan isn't accused of any misconduct and won't be taking the witness stand, he indicated his name was included in a list of high-profile people who might factor into trial testimony.
The reason is a bombshell 2023 civil lawsuit filed by the singer Cassie Ventura Diddy's former girlfriend has become an essential element of this labyrinthine case. In the complaint, Cassie claimed that when she briefly split with Combs in 2015, she was in a "flirtatious relationship with an actor." Anonymous names were used in the court filings, although Jordan was later confirmed as the actor in the matter by multiple news organizations.
According to the lawsuit, after Cassie spent New Year's Eve with Jordan, Diddy reportedly called Jordan directly and issued a threat. Moreover, Jordan had nothing to do with that other incident, and including him in the jury vetting is to make sure jurors aren't biased toward figures possibly brought up in trial.
Team Jordan has been silent so far; no public statements have been made. His mention is more of a sideshow in an increasingly complex web of celebrity liaisons and explosive allegations.
Jordan isn't the only big-name ensnared in the narrative. The jury selection also referenced figures like Jay-Z and Kid Cudi, featured in Ventura's chilling account of her years with Combs.
In one alarming claim, Ventura details a brief fling she had with Kid Cudi in 2011, which reportedly sent Diddy into a violent rage. She alleged Combs had threatened to "blow up Kid Cudi's car," and in a jaw-dropper of a twist, a car did explode in Cudi's driveway not too long after that. A representative for Cudi verified to The New York Times that the information in Ventura's lawsuit was "completely accurate."
Another nightmare scenario Ventura recounted was when Diddy allegedly found emails between her and Cudi during a "bugout, whimper and cry moment, a ridiculous freak-off," as she called it. She claimed that Combs then assaulted her with a corkscrew. She fled in the aftermath and found refuge at Kid Cudi's home.
The courtroom is gearing up for a trial featuring lurid allegations, tearful witnesses, and a long list of celebrity name-drops. For now, Michael B. Jordan's role in this saga seems limited to that of a single chapter in Ventura's painful story but one that illustrates just how expansive and combustible this case might snowball to be.
