When it comes to rodeo moments that defy belief, you probably aren't imagining a hip-hop artist getting slammed to the ground by a pissed-off bull. But that's what went down at the Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Tex., and the man to tell the tale? Who else but That Mexican OT?
The 26-year-old rapper, who was appearing in promotion of the new single "Baby Mad at Me" with Lil Wayne, hadn't even been out there that long before the unexpected rodeo rode itself right up in his face with the help of only a fierce bull but let's say it got a little wild.
The video of the event shows the raw chaos: OT steps into the arena, all cool and collected. Bam! The bull hits him twice, sending him to the dirt. First, it gets hit, then there's a bullfighter, and OT gets it all over again in the panic. You can also see the shock, grit, and, finally, the spirit of a guy who refuses to be fazed.
You would be wrong if you thought this was enough to knock him. Not only did OT dust himself off and walk free, but he laughed it off, posting a photo of his newly-bruised mug on Instagram with a snarky caption ("Felt good"), and even had some self-promotional fun by switching up the singles artwork to "Bull Mad at Me." Because why not wear even a brutal moment as a badge of honor?
Social media lit up, mostly in admiration and humor. "First rapper to fight a bull call Soulja Boy," one user quipped, while another commended OT on his toughness. "OT is f###### tank. He wasn't a bit fazed by that bull." And to keep it real, Texas, someone added, "B#### I'm from Texas, where we get hit by Bulls in Solar Plexus." That's the Texas pride people know: sick, brutal, unrepentant, and ready. However, life knocks you around.
It's not the first time OT has brushed up against hometown glory. As recently as March, Bay City, Texas, commemorated the rapper's ascent with "That Mexican OT Day," when the city got together to pay him homage. The city's mayor, Robert K. Nelson, signed a proclamation acknowledging OT with "exceptional talent" and positive influence in the music world. He also noted that he has been "proudly putting Bay City on the map."
Mexican OT's narrative is one of strength, humor, and grit qualities that, besides being evident in the studio, are possessed in the rodeo arena. From releasing music with Lil Wayne to dodging the horns of a bull, OT shows that he's just as much of a daredevil in real life as he is in his tracks.
So what's in store for this Texas raisin rapper from Texas? If this rodeo stunt is any sign, no challenge is too great, and no bull is too fearsome to deter this man. Look out for more music, moments, and maybe a tad less bull in the ring next time.
