Victoria Monét Opens Up About Falling for Stormzy

Grammy-winning artist Victoria Monét offered a candid peek into a short yet meaningful chapter of her love life. It wasn’t all that long, but it was in no way void of impact: her romance with British rapper Stormzy. “We would have wanted to make the announcements on our time,” Monét mused, referring to how their relationship was outed before they were ready. That piece of news did not come by press release or red carpet debut but was the paparazzi who caught the pair kissing in a London parking lot last year.

“That was honestly our first real hangout,” Monét said with a laugh, suggesting that life had begun moving faster than they could process.

The latter turned into tabloid fodder in October 2024 after the Heathrow Airport sighting, causing fans and tabloids to go berserk. Monét had only recently confirmed she was split with her longtime partner, John Gaines, with whom she shares a daughter, Hazel. The pair had already separated ten months ago and had opted to keep the news to themselves and away from unwanted public attention. They say timing is everything, and for Monét and Stormzy, the timing could have been more poetic.

Monét isn’t holding on to regrets. “I genuinely fell in love,” she offered with evident love, describing Stormzy as “a special guy.” She never shied away from the truth of her feelings, but neither did she linger on any sense of loss. “We had fun together,” she added with an earnest grin. “There’s no bad blood, and it was a relationship based on respect for one another.”

These are rare words in an industry frequently plagued by messy breakups and cryptic subtweets. Monét’s rendition was less dramatic and more mature: these two adults had temporarily shared something real.

And then, of course, there’s the part of the story that isn’t told. As Palmer gently prodded, Monét hinted, “We’ll have to discuss that.” It was a pointed poke that perhaps this chapter isn’t entirely closed or, at least, not wholly read aloud.

As for Stormzy, he’s been in the news. In the new song “Sorry Rach!” the rapper appears to confirm he’s in love again. “I told the boys, I found my wife,” he raps, going on: “Baby if you have my baby, you’re set for life. What’s more, whether or not that verse contains echoes of former loves or simply alerting cries of the waking-up blues is a matter of personal takeaway.

Monét, for her part, remained graceful and unbothered. She didn’t say anything about the song, preferring to keep her attention on the memories and respect they have.

It’s obvious Victoria Monét is stepping into her next chapter with her head high and her heart open. And if history indicates, she has plenty more to hash out on her terms in her own time.
