Keith Sweat Two-Steps Through Backlash Over 'Entitled' Women Remarks, 'Still Love Y'all Anyway'

The 63-year-old music action figure Keith Sweat landed in hot water this week after he had some uncomplimentary words for "entitled" single women during a live performance that was captured on video. In the clip, Sweat was heard condemning certain contemporary women for not doing enough for their relationships.

"You got to bring something to the table to get something for me," he told the audience. "I can't help it. They no longer want to cook.

He then noted his independence: "I clean my clothes, iron my clothes. Gotta do something for me."

Critics took to social media to denounce Sweat's views as outdated and, to some, a little too close to red-pill talking points. "Keith Sweat is a 63-year-old successful ass man with fame, 5 children, chart-topping records, and a decent fan base AARP eligible ass man," one tweet read. "If he can't find a woman to do what I do, cook, clean, iron, etc…. It is because of HIM, not because such women don't exist! In all fairness, if he can't find a woman to do any of those things for him, he must know he is the one with the problem.

Another user was less forgiving, joking, "When did Keith Sweat start quoting red pill podcasts?"

Sweat responded to the backlash with an Instagram post of a video of himself dancing to Kendrick Lamar's "peekaboo," writing, "We ain't worried bout nothin the haters gotta say. Enjoy Life."

Then, doubling down in the comments, he said, "Yall tripping. I cook and clean, and I don't have to." What's the problem? I'm like most women that don't even do what I do."

Celebrity males have long (and often) made it momentarily socially acceptable to open the discussion about traditional roles in relationships. Still, Keith's out-of-date perspective appears to have put sex in some people's cornflakes. And yet his response was both mischievous and unapologetic, emerging as he did from the squall that he helped create rather than backing down from it.

Sweat's position, in a nutshell: Not all women. Just some. And if that's not you, "why yall trippin?"

Whether you're Team Keith or Fan Who Can't Even Right Now with his commentary, one thing is for sure: This R&B legend isn't letting the internet cancel his groove.
