The teen Lil Novi issued a hot take in a recent interview clip that began circulating widely on social media over the weekend, reviving one of the longest-running debates in hip-hop.
"Lil Wayne," he declared. "My dad wrote most of his s###, so. Let me tell you about God; if it weren't for my pops, there wouldn't be any Drake."
And the internet, never one to cede a controversy, pounced. Novi provided no receipts, no behind-the-scenes dirt, and just that raw statement. But it was enough, more than enough, to set off chaos across hip-hop Twitter and Instagram comments.

Some fans were also quick to call cap, noting that Drake had been creating music long before his Young Money days. "They are not even the same style of rap, so this makes zero sense," one user said. Others even cited old interviews in which Lil Wayne credited Drake with bringing new ideas. That's right. Wayne once claimed that Drake's songwriting motivated him.
Another user clapped back properly: "How Drake's dad writes most of Drake's s###, but this man doesn't even write his s###." Wayne raps off the top!"
It's not the first time ghostwriting rumors about Drake have occurred, but this one was from Lil Wayne's son. That hits differently.
It was hard to shake the impression Lil Novi hadn't meant any harm. Quite frankly, I don't even think it's about Carti," he later added, "No disrespect to Drake. He's hard now, but I'm saying … Come on, man." That's not a question." That's regular teenage loyalty to dad, but in this case, it poured gasoline on a discussion that has been burning for a decade or more.
Additionally, Novi recently held court behind the mic on "Mula Komin In," a song from Tha Carter VI that debuted earlier this month. For fans, that album's been a mixed bag, with some vibing on it and others throwing shade.
One TikTok user suggested the album was "trash," but Wayne's daughter, Reginae Carter, didn't have it. Responding with a burst of her own that's now going viral, in video form:
"Just cause y'all can't do a TikTok to it doesn't make it trash, babes. My dad was talking real s###."
So, we have Lil Novi causing a scene and Reginae getting handsy (via text, at least), so it looks like the Carter kids are out here, and the family name will be held high and loud. Regardless of whether Wayne wrote most of Drizzy's catalog, one thing is sure: the discourse around the legacy of hip-hop royalty is not over.
