The hip-hop legend Nelly and his wife, R&B songstress Ashanti, have made a significant move together. Their first child, Kareem Kenkaide, arrived in July 2023. And just when you thought that was enough, the two are now branching out into reality TV with Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together" (which debuts June 26, 2025, on Peacock).
In a refreshing and funny moment of honesty on NBC's Today, Nelly got honest about what it's like being a new dad all over again, but this time, he had a bit more experience under his belt and a lot more coffee. "Listen, I told her before we had this baby, I said, 'Now listen, I'm here. But to be chasing toddlers at 50 …" he said with the universal laugh of every tired parent.

But it may be too early to count him out. He's unearthed a golden parenting hack: outsourcing the cardio. "As many as you want, but as many nannies as we can afford," he quipped. "I hire a professional chaser." That's some veteran dad-level thinking there.
Motherhood is a new role for Ashanti, 44, and she won't pretend it is easy. In the trailer for their latest show, she confesses: "KK is my first baby, so I'm a little more frantic." The new mom energy is real.
As for Nelly, her parenting motto is something like: Go easy, go easy. "My parenting style is don't burn the house down," he shared, proving that he hasn't lost his sense of humor.
Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together is set to give fans an all-access pass to the couple's rollercoaster romance, from changing diapers to backstage passes and everything in between. "We are really in real life working on our lives together, our child, our careers, traveling, getting those moments, the cameras; it's a lot," Ashanti told Today.
Nelly's already a father to two grown kids, Chanelle, 31, and Tre, 26, whom he had in a past relationship. He stepped up hugely once before in 2005 when he adopted his sister Jackie's two kids, Shawn Jr. and Sydney.
With baby Kareem to boot and a new show on the horizon, Nelly's confirming what we already knew: the man can do it all. Whether rocking the stage or a newborn off to sleep, Nelly's still got it, dad jokes and all.
