Nick Cannon Honors Late Son Zen With Candlelight Tribute and Hospital Visit

Nick Cannon commemorated the fourth birthday of his late son, Zen, transforming a day marked by sorrow into a tribute to love and his enduring legacy. Cannon, the host of The Masked Singer, conveyed his emotions through an Instagram video that captures a contemplative moment in a hospital setting where he lit a candle in Zen's memory. The simplicity of the act highlights a father reflecting on the ephemeral yet vibrant existence of a child who departed far too early.

"Today, we celebrate what would have been my son Zen's fourth birthday," Cannon articulated in his post. "Though his time with us was brief, his light continues to inspire many through the initiatives of Zen's Light Foundation."

Zen, the offspring of Cannon and model Alyssa Scott, succumbed to brain cancer in December 2021, having lived just five months. The couple candidly discussed Zen's medical journey and subsequent passing on The Nick Cannon Show, a moment that resonated deeply with audiences nationwide.

From this profound grief emerged a significant endeavor. In 2022, Cannon and Scott established the Zen's Light Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing pediatric healthcare and providing grief services for families enduring the unthinkable. The foundation is dedicated to advancing "global excellence in hope, grief care, and pediatric healthcare for families and children in distress."

On June 23rd, 2025, the date of what would have been Zen's fourth birthday, Cannon emphasized that this day represents more than just a source of grief. "June 23rd will always be a day of celebration," he stated. "It's a beautiful lighting ceremony to honor the life of an angel. Zen's birth has now evolved into Zen's Light."

The video he shared is subdued and introspective, devoid of grand statements or elaborate displays. It features flickering candlelight symbolizing the enduring memory of a boy whose brief life continues to exert a profound influence.

As a father of 12, Cannon often reflects on the multifaceted nature of parenting. However, Zen's narrative has markedly shifted his perspective. Through Zen's Light Foundation, he leverages his public platform to commemorate Zen, address pediatric health issues, and provide solace to bereaved families navigating their own challenging journeys.

Nick Cannon chose to express love on a day that could have succumbed to despair. He chose introspection, allowing Zen's light to persist. In this choice, he illustrated that a single candle can continue to radiate hope even amid profound darkness.
