Real Bleeda’s Arrest Sparks Chilling Warning to Baton Rouge Police

The high-profile arrest of a Baton Rouge rapper earlier in the month has rapidly devolved into a full-fledged security threat for the city’s police force. Rapper Real Bleeda (real name David Catherine) has allegedly been threatened with a song of violence after his recent arrest, which he says was for no good reason.

Two men allegedly connected to Bleeda and his music circle were arrested after police claim one said he would execute Baton Rouge officers unless the rapper were released. The threat followed the arrest of Bleeda in connection with the Feb. 2024 murder of Teressa Calligan, a 53-year-old popular community leader and educator. It added drama to a tragic case that raised law enforcement eyebrows.

Officials said the threat was credible enough to prompt heightened safety protocols for officers throughout the city. The person who made the threat has not been identified, but the situation has officials on high alert.

Calligan, who was the Walls Project’s Futures Fund dean of coding, was shot to death in a gang killing on Sept. 15. The authorities say she was not the target, just an innocent woman caught in the crossfire of a violent dispute.

Real Bleeda’s arrest occurred on June 10, 2025, which ended months of mounting legal trouble. The charges stemmed from a May 19 incident in which he was captured on video waiving a gun during an argument with members of a rival gang outside the Pecanland Mall in Monroe. The videos circulated on social media and eventually led law enforcement to where he was hiding.

But Bleeda wasn’t the only one facing charges in Calligan’s death. Two other suspects, Roger Parker and Robert Lewis, have also been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting.

Parker was already charged in the drive-by shooting death of 8-year-old Dillon Daniels1, a case that unnerved the Baton Rouge area and added to the deadly infiltration of local gang violence.

Lewis, 19, was arrested on unrelated charges while already in jail at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His criminal records include nearly every serious crime on the books: murder, illegal weapons possession, aggravated flight from officers, property damage, and witness intimidation.

Since the stakes have been raised so high, and with a potentially armed reactionary threat to law enforcement, all eyes are now on Real Bleeda’s court dates. He is scheduled for a bond review hearing on July 17 and a motion hearing on Aug. 12, 2025.

As Baton Rouge prepares for the legal proceedings to come, the echoes of Calligan’s death are being felt well beyond the courtroom. This case isn’t only about one arrest but a story of violence and the loss of community and of the terrifying lengths to which some will go for loyalty’s sake.
