Stevie Wonder stole the show at the BET Awards by roasting Jamie Foxx most endearingly and entertainingly possible. ‘The music icon took the stage on Monday night, June 9, 2025, to give Jamie Foxx the Ultimate King of Comedy Award, and what happened will make your day and melt your heart afterward.
The 74-year-old artist never keeps a straight face when teasing himself, so his initial opening line was immediately amusing. “He hit me up because of his winning Academy Award for Ray,” Stevie stated about the portrayal of Ray Charles. “And I said, ‘You know Jamie, just because you played a blind man, that doesn’t mean we’re besties, okay?”. The audience had to laugh, but Wonder hadn’t finished. His comedic ability was flawless: “Listen, I spent tireless hours watching and editing the footage for this tribute tonight… wait… watching?”. It took just one word for the whole room to realize that Stevie’s humor was intact, and he called out to the comedian onstage. “Jamie. Jamie, look at me”.

However, Stevie diverted his mind’s thoughts and spoke sincerely: “I remember seeing you the first time at a club playing the piano and singing… but I knew from the moment I heard you sing that you had so much more. I admire and celebrate your talent. I’m thrilled to be here tonight to see you honored as you deserve”. Of course, Jamie could not pass on a chance to jab back. He immediately took over from Stevie and gave a genuinely flawless Stevie Wonder at the BET Awards performance.
This wasn’t the only time Stevie demonstrated his incredible comedic talent. Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre treated fans to a Drink Champs found on Livestream at ComplexCon in Las Vegas last year. Snoop told hosts that he and Stevie are friends: “On everything I love, Stevie Wonder does FaceTime… he was like, ‘I’ve been looking for you!”. Then, Dre said that the artist called him at 5 AM to have a text sent: “Stevie Wonder rings me at around 5 AM, asking me to send him a text. I was like, ‘What the…?’ I hung up, still baffled by what he had just requested”.
Hence, Stevie Wonder is incredible, whether he makes people happy with his singing talent or makes side-cracking jokes. Because ‘vision might not be about sight, but not about appreciation. It’s also about understanding and creating opportunities for people to fall in love with you Again.’
