The unwavering TV personality Wendy Williams’ is clapping back after learning that she’s been slapped with a whopping $250 million lawsuit that the gossip queen claims she knew nothing about.
The suit is the work of her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, who named her a co-plaintiff in a wide-ranging legal action against about 50 defendants, including her court-appointed guardian, Judge Lisa Sokoloff, Wells Fargo, and her assisted living facility. But now here’s the rub, according to Wendy: She wasn’t consulted, wasn’t informed, and certainly disagreed.

Wendy made that apparent in the exclusive conversation with TMZ. “This lawsuit, I don’t even know about it,” she said in obvious Surprise. And as for Hunter’s part in all of it? She didn’t mince words.
“He’s a money-grubber. He’s always been like that,” Wendy said. “It is nice to know he is up to such bad things again.”
Wendy and Hunter married for over 20 years before splitting in 2019. Wendy has been under court-ordered guardianship since 2022, a condition that has restricted her ability to work and manage her finances. The lawsuit, which People obtained, states that Hunter alleges that the deal has cost her, and it seems distinct here that she has lost about $20 million per year in lost earnings.
The suit doesn’t seek to terminate Wendy’s guardianship altogether but asks for a new guardian and the release of sealed court documents. Most controversially, Hunter asks to be declared her “next friend,” a legal status that allows him to act on her behalf. Her legal team, as you might expect, is not having it.
“No, not by any stretch,” Wendy’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, responded. “She didn’t know about the lawsuit and is not thrilled with it.” He continued by labeling Hunter’s action as “entirely unauthorized” and “legally baseless.
“He has no standing to join this lawsuit with her,” Tacopina said. “And if we want to file a lawsuit, we certainly don’t need his help. So, thanks, but no thanks.”
For Wendy, this is not just a legal overreach but a personal one. Her message to her ex was obvious: “Nor do I want him to be part of my life like that, no, because I’m divorced for eternity.”
After years in the public eye working through public health challenges, a divorce, and the difficulties of guardianship, all Wendy has left to cling to is her voice. And true to form, Wendy isn’t going to let anyone, least of all her ex, speak for her.
Kevin Hunter appears to have picked the wrong woman to drag into a courtroom drama without her consent. As Wendy herself might put it, “How you doin’? Not with me, you’re not.”
