2 Chainz Unveils Gritty "Red Clay" Trailer

Atlanta rap superstar 2 Chainz is heating up the summer, and it's not just his bars but also his brazen stride into this summer's film scene. The rapper released the official trailer for "Red Clay," an intimate short film co-written with actor and filmmaker Omar Epps, on July 22, 2025. And if the initial look is any indication, this is more than just a side project; it's an impassioned storytelling force of nature, one that is firmly rooted in its red Georgia clay.

Scored to music featuring Young Thug, 2 Chainz, and Culture Club, and set in 2003 Atlanta, "Red Clay" tells the story of one young man (Christopher A'mmanuel) as he navigates the harsh realities of addiction, poverty, and survival. With a mother with a substance abuse problem and aspirations to a better life tugging on him, Nook's story rings in countless Black and brown communities grappling with systemic challenges.

Helmed by Christian Nolan Jones, who previously captivated audiences with his stirring short film "Glitter Ain't Gold," "Red Clay" also features Rutina Wesley and Jaylan Ragin. He offers emotional heft to a film that doesn't shy away from the grittier aspects of life.

2 Chainz knows how to tell a story through song, so you already know the "Red Clay" soundtrack is going to slap just as much as the visuals. Featuring new music from The Isley Brothers, Lil Yachty, Ne-Yo, and other artists, the film's musical palette combines soul, hip-hop, and nostalgia for an unforgettable soundtrack. One obvious standout with buzz is "The ATL Experience," a funky team-up with 2 Chainz and Ronald Isley, of the legendary Isley Brothers. It's the kind of groove that spans generations but keeps the rich beat of Atlanta at its pulse.

"The wait is over," 2 Chainz wrote on Instagram in revealing the trailer. "With Red Clay Soundtrack dropping soon, it's only right we drop the trailer." Fans thirsty for more can sign up with a link in his bio for VIP access to the entire short film, exclusive drops, and early screenings.

"As a rare disease survivor, it's a cause I'm passionate about," said 2 Chainz of the project, "and I tell stories in my music all the time, and I think that is an example of turning a negative into a positive." "Red Clay" is a continuation of it." "Atlanta is a city full of resilience, and bringing Nook and Bub's story to life, two resilient everyday people fighting to survive, is so important to me. Going on to do this with Omar Epps was a real moment, though."

Red Clay is already off to a great start, having had its world premiere at the Atlanta Film Festival in May, and is now traveling the film festival circuit around the world. That's one fact established as the countdown to the soundtrack release begins: 2 Chainz isn't just rapping about real life anymore, he's putting it on the screen, soundtrack and all.
