Cassie Ventura’s team of attorneys moved to release a strongly worded statement against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs in the wake of his partial conviction in a federal criminal case. Though the jury acquitted Diddy of the most severe charges, which included racketeering and sex trafficking, the panel found him guilty of two counts of interstate travel to engage in prostitution.
Diddy, 55, remained stoic as the Manhattan jury returned the split verdict on July 2, 2025. Although he escaped a life sentence, the penalty for the two guilty counts remains substantial, with a maximum of 20 years; however, some legal experts said such a sentence is improbable. The music star bowed his head by his chair in the courtroom after the verdict was delivered, as family members provided quiet support from the gallery. “I’ll be back home soon,” he said as he was taken back into custody, according to Newsweek.

“This entire criminal process began because our client, Cassie Ventura, had the bravery to file her civil complaint in November 2023,” Wigdor said in a statement that was at once legal and personal. “Even though the jury did not find Diddy guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of sex trafficking Cassie, she laid the groundwork for a jury to find Diddy guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution.”
The judge was considering the dismissal of Ventura’s initial lawsuit, filed last year, which was settled in private for $20 million, in the first of a string of accusations against Combs of inappropriate behavior with employees. Wigdor was firm in saying that she was the one who first pulled down the curtain on years of alleged abuse in the industry.
“Cassie has put her face to her experience, and this has made an indelible impression on the entertainment industry and the pursuit of justice,” Wigdor said. “She showed her strength above all and brought to light an issue we have been sweeping under the rug: The powerful men in our orbit and their bad behavior,” he said.
The fallout of the case, which has sparked a furious public debate, is viewed not only in legal terms but also in cultural terms, marking a reckoning years in the making. Diddy, who was once the epitome of success, wealth, and control, is now living a vastly different reality behind bars in New York, valiantly fighting to be granted bail.
Diddy’s lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, sought his release, asking that he be allowed to return to his home in Florida. However, federal prosecutor Maurene Comey, who is not related to the federal judge, argued that there was a high risk of flight and told the judge to reject the request. His proposal remains pending before U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, who has asked for written arguments from both parties.
As the legal saga plays out, Wigdor’s words reverberate louder than any ruling: “This case demonstrated that change is long overdue. And we will keep fighting for survivors.” In a world where silence once wielded power, it’s possible that only now, with Cassie Ventura adding her voice to a long-overdue chorus.
