Consequence Doubles Down on Kanye West With Soulful New Summer Drop

In a music industry where being attached to Kanye West has increasingly become something of a liability, longtime associate Consequence is refusing to run the other way, instead running toward it. But while others are distancing themselves from the ever-divisive rap icon, Consequence is rekindling an artistic relationship that helped define both their careers.

In an exclusive interview, Consequence shared that his new single is produced by none other than Yeezy himself, and it'll be here sooner than you might think. "I've got the beat of the summer again," he said confidently. "When my new single drops and yes, Ye produced it, we're going to raise some discussions."

Few details have been released so far, but Consequence suggested that's very much what the song will be: That good ol' fashioned "old Kanye" soulful, rich, and sample-heavy. It's a return to form that fulfills a longtime wish of many of the band's most dedicated fans.

An elderly single person just adds another chapter to a decades-long relationship that has been anything but dull. From dropping a fan-favorite verse on "Spaceship" from College Dropout to co-writing classics like "Flashing Lights" and "Gone," Cons had a significant hand in crafting Kanye's early solo work. He was a member of G.O.O.D. Music's original family, supplying vocals and pen work for Late Registration and Gradation.

But it has not always been so smooth a ride. Then in 2011, Consequence cut ties with the label amid a flurry of public criticism directed at both West and Pusha T, and the collaborators fell silent until years later, when they finally mended fences and reunited creatively for Kanye's Donda album.

Now, it appears that chapter wasn't its last. Consequence released his last album, 'Nice Doing Business With You,' in 2024 with a Kanye-featuring "Blood Stain." That tracked what fans' appetites for their relighted chemistry, and this new single seems set to stretch that groove out.

"I'm ready for everybody to be able to ride out going into the spring and the summer," he said, teasing that this song is the beginning of a larger rollout. And for Consequence, it's bigger than music; it's a legacy. Besides getting back up to speed, he's a mentor to his son, Caiden the Crownholder, who's already going viral on TikTok with a freestyle that garnered over 5 million views.

As the tides turn around Kanye, Consequence proves steadfast in his loyalty and with laser-like focus. "I never have been one to be able to kick my feet up," he said. "It's boots to the ground. Always has been."

No release date has officially been announced, but this much is clear: Consequence is banking on Kanye all over again, and he may very well have the ace of the summer.
