Judge Grants Diddy Reading Privileges as Jury Hits Speed Bump

Music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs has been given some small comfort in prison books. A federal judge ruled in favor of Diddy on Monday, June 30, 2025, and allowed reading material to be returned to the embattled Hip-Hop mogul's holding cell, giving him slight solace as his fate remains uncertain.

Diddy's lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, approached the bench of Judge Arun Subramanian with a mundane request: Could his client read as he waited for the jury to make a decision? The judge quickly nodded in agreement, offering a brief mental respite for the Bad Boy Records mogul, who is currently behind bars.

Combs, who has pleaded not guilty to a long list of serious charges including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transporting individuals for prostitution, has been jailed since his September 2024 arrest. The potential for conviction carries huge stakes: up to a life sentence on the racketeering charge, a minimum of 15 years for sex trafficking, and a maximum of 10 years for the transportation charge.

The jury, which includes eight men and four women, began deliberations on Monday, June 30, 2025, in Manhattan federal court, following a seven-week trial that has made headlines and generated intense public interest. But the path to a verdict did not begin smoothly. In less than an hour, the jury foreperson sent a note to the judge, expressing concern about one of their number.

"We have a juror, number 25, that we believe has extreme bias," the note read, drawing a halt to the already fraught proceedings.

Judge Subramaniam discussed the matter with both lawyers and ultimately opted to accept the prosecution's submission, to allow the deliberations to continue, but with a stern warning. In his closing statement, he implored the jurors to consider the evidence in good faith and to follow the court's instructions closely.

This legal drama first captured headlines in November 2023, when Diddy's former girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, sued him for sexual abuse. That case was resolved in a single day, but not before sparking a broader inquiry. Ventura eventually took the witness stand in the current trial, and testimony came out that the settlement was for an outrageous $20 million.

With deliberations set to begin again on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in the morning, Diddy will sit in his cell, time and tension now his companions, along with a few books for company. While the world watches and wonders, he mills behind bars, possibly just looking to escape, to learn, or maybe just a thin avenue to help bear the weight of waiting.

Whatever the verdict, it has already made an indelible impact on the cultural landscape. For now, all eyes are on that Manhattan jury and on what stories Diddy may be reading, as his own continues to emerge.
