When Shaquille O’Neal speaks, people generally listen, especially when he’s throwing shade, just as he used to dunk on defenders. And this time, the target is not a rookie center or a missed free throw, but it’s the newfound romance between the NBA sharpshooter Klay Thompson and the hip-hop heavyweight Megan Thee Stallion.
On the most recent episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq, the Big Aristotle not only opined on Klay and Megan’s sparkling new relationship, but he put it on the clock.

“Six weeks,” said Shaq, who deadpanned when podcast co-host Adam Lefkoe mentioned the couple. No equivocation, no flattery, just a raw countdown to heartbreak, as seen in Shaq’s eyes, anyway.
The conversation started casually enough. Looking to heat the drama, Lefkoe asked Shaq if he’d heard the news about the NBA’s newest off-court coupling: Klay Thompson, the Dallas Maverick, and Megan Thee Stallion, the Grammy winner and Houston honeys’ flower.
Even Mike Tyson, who was a guest on the episode and probably doesn’t know about all the memes, asked the innocent and funny question: “Who’s Klay Thompson?” After a little NBA intro from Lefkoe, the show was on. And that’s when Shaq, never one to miss a comedic beat, uncorked his now-viral timer: “Six weeks.”
Tyson, perennial contrarian, wasn’t yet prepared to dismiss the couple as hopeless cases. “I think they had a shot,” he said, dismissing Shaq’s stopwatch with a touch more optimism than the big man was offering.
The remarks come only days after Klay and Megan took their red carpet debut at the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in NYC on July 16. The gala, organized by Megan to honor her deceased parents, was a touching occasion, especially when the rapper made even more waves by publicly calling Thompson “the nicest person I’ve ever met in my life.”
When did romance rumors begin to swirl? Thompson was first spotted chilling beside a pool in one of Megan’s Instagram Stories earlier this year by eagle-eyed fans. The speculation has only grown since, and this gala marks the first official time the couple has stepped into the limelight together.
Thompson, who inked a $50 million, three-year contract with the Mavericks in July 2023, has kept his thoughts on the home front as characteristically absent as ever. No interviews, no public confirmations, just a smirk on the red carpet and an easy poolside cameo.
Whether he’s just toying with us or full tilt skeptical, Shaq’s six-week prediction has D-list buzz added to the already sizzling celebrity pairing. Either love it, hate it, or meme it, but it’s possibly the season’s most amusing off-court rivalry.
