It all started on Tuesday, July 15, when Nicki Minaj salted a still-unhealed wound and aimed a slut-shaming Twitter-rant in SZA’s current direction, rekindling the quiet grudge SZA has been holding onto for four years into a mess of a very public beef. However, according to Punch, the president of Top Dawg Entertainment, the story is much simpler and far less melodramatic than fans might hope.
“She was in album mode,” Punch shared in a private message obtained by media personality Loren Lorosa during her Wednesday appearance on The Breakfast Club. “Nicki likes to hit us up like, ‘Can we get a SZA feature? I said I’d get it to her. That was it. We never spoke again.”

In the post, which felt more like a slam poem than a caption, Minaj doesn’t pull punches and doesn’t shy ineffectively from Punch at all, saying: “Me after I suck some good zik. What is the guarantee that you won’t fight a man… Your name was on that list in those drawers.
Previous to the track, SZA was relatively low-key about industry beef, so she decided to keep it that way at first — maybe too low-key for Nicki. “Mercury retrograde.. don’t take the bait lol silly goose,” she shared.
Nicki took the bait. She reunites with a jab that landed as a big point-er SZA is a liar and a fake, even going as low as to tear down her signature freckles: “Go draw your freckles back on b#####…”
From there, things escalated rapidly. SZA hit back with a bold claim: “Imma make a way out of no way,” he wrote. “I didn’t stay down, I came back, I stepped up and put on for my people And for the ones to count, I must respect you.”
Nicki was up next, arriving to snatch her resume: “Does Sza think she’s got more shine than me? Lol... Boo, im an icon. You’re not.”
From making fun of SZA’s vocal technique to saying that she has more of a global presence than anything SZA’s done, Minaj made her boundary quite clear. The sort of line that washes away slowly.
And so what began as a misfired DM and missing feature has blossomed into an all-out tiff, with all fanbases in a tizzy, and TDE’s Punch standing helpless in its center.
If nothing else, this beef proves one thing: in the social media age, no grudge is ever too old to bring up, and no missed feature gets forgotten.
