Gayle King in the Crosshairs as Former President Trump Targets Black Media Hosts Again

In what's becoming a familiar pattern, Donald Trump is once again turning his fire on prominent Black media figures, and this time, veteran journalist Gayle King is in the hot seat. Posting to his Truth Social account, the former president didn't hold back. Reacting to a New York Post article hinting at turbulence behind the scenes at CBS Mornings, Trump boldly declared, "Gayle King's career is over."

But he wasn't done. "She should have stayed with her belief in Trump," he added, suggesting that King once aligned with him but lacked the "courage" to stick with it. "No talent, no ratings, no strength!" he continued, lashing out with signature venom that's become his brand.

Trump's comments come on the heels of CBS pulling the plug on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, a late-night program known for its consistent satire aimed at the former president. CBS has attributed the cancellation to financial restructuring. Still, whispers across the media landscape suggest a deeper motive: a quiet move to smooth tensions with Trump supporters as the election season approaches.

Now, with the dust barely settled from a $16 million settlement between Trump and Paramount Global over a 60 Minutes interview with then-Senator Kamala Harris, Trump appears emboldened. The legal win seems to have added fuel to his ongoing war with mainstream media, particularly journalists of color who've been critical of his presidency.

Gayle King, a trusted face on CBS Mornings for over a decade, has played a pivotal role in shaping the tone and credibility of the show. Her transition from Oprah's OWN network to CBS marked a significant step in her career, one that put her at the forefront of national conversations. While the future of CBS Mornings remains unclear, Trump's latest tirade paints a target squarely on her back.

And King's not alone. Just days ago, Trump let loose on radio host Charlamagne tha God after he appeared on Fox News with Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump. In response to Charlamagne's critiques of his presidency, Trump labeled him a "racist sleazebag," a "Low IQ individual," and "a dope."

This latest chapter in Trump's ongoing battle with Black media voices highlights a deeper, more concerning pattern. Time and again, his sharpest words are aimed at those who dare to challenge him, especially when they happen to be Black, outspoken, and influential.

As CBS continues its internal reshuffling and the 2024 election approaches, the network finds itself balancing corporate strategy and journalistic integrity. Whether Gayle King's position truly is "over," as Trump claims, or whether she continues to hold the line in a shifting media landscape, one thing is clear: Trump's war on the press, especially Black media figures, is far from over.
