Moletrap ignite the spirit of mid wales with explosive new EP “Mid Welsh, Pt. 1”

Moletrap return with intent, on 2/3 of their brand-new self-release EP "Mid Welsh Pt 1" a five-track explosion of pure distilled viscera that combines the heartfelt and grime-stained soul of Mid Wales in seventeen unrelenting minutes. Out now, the EP's not just a record, it's a love letter to place, history, and identity.

The EP is a study in contrasts, intimate moments crash into anthemic crescendos, Welsh and English bilingual lyrics tangle with towering rock dynamism, and each track sounds like an open invitation to a thousand-strong mosh pit. Little wonder, then, that critics and taste makers are already getting excited about Moletrap's sound. The BBC Introducing show announced that Moletrap were an un-ignorable great, a thousand mosh-pits await!" "Mid Welsh, Pt. 1" eventually became something more meaningful, an opportunity for them to examine what it means to be Mid-Walian. Over the course of its five tracks, Moletrap creates a sound-world that melds anthemic melodic pop with guttural guitars and lyrics that throb with genuine life.

Standouts like "Rhagofn" land with a fearlessly urgent intensity, its powerhouse singing matched by chugging riffs that demand the roar of a live crowd. "Middle of the Land," meanwhile, serves as an evergreen, outsized, lumbering, and textured with a groove that can communicate resolve or defiance, depending on how you read it. Both songs demonstrate the band's skill in translating life in Mid Wales into music that seems both deeply personal and universally thrilling.

On "Mid Welsh, Pt. 1," Moletrap makes it clear that they're not just a band with music to play, they're the voice of their region, helping shoulder the weight of tradition and pushing forward mightily into modern rockscape. Chiming in at just under 18 minutes, the EP has listeners satiated and yet still wanting more, perfectly teeing things up for the story to carry on in Pt. 2.
