Siren Section returns after eight years with the ambitious "Separation Team"

After more than eight years, Siren Section comes out of hiding with "Separation Team," a 19-track full-length album that proves they are masters of sound that is both immersive and emotionally charged. The album took four years to write and produce, combining post-punk, shoegaze, and glitch-driven electronics into a single, complex experience that pushes the limits of alternative music.

Siren Section is made up of James Cumberland and John Dowling, who have been working together for more than 20 years. They call their style "glitchgaze," which mixes textured, experimental soundscapes with melodies that are easy to hear. On Separation Team, this vision reaches new heights, with each song adding to a complicated, emotionally powerful story.

The album starts with "CONSTRUCT," which sets up a textured sound base that continues through "BULLET TRAIN" and "SOLIDARITY," both of which have a communal pulse. The songs "MEDICINE" and "FLINCH" show how well the duo can handle tension and release. "THEY WILL NEVER FIND US" and "MARKER," on the other hand, explore atmospheric spaces that feel both close and wide.

Siren Section is great at balancing intensity and restraint, as shown in "DANGEROUS TO KNOW" and the two-part "TRITAGONIST" suite, which adds glitchy electronics to dark shoegaze textures. "MINOTAUR", "DEER HUNTER," and "GLASS CANNON" push the limits of alternative music by creating dense, immersive soundscapes that require close listening. Later songs like "TIMEGHOST" and "EQUILIBRIUM" bring in moments of reflection and tension, leading up to the emotionally charged finale, "FIVE FIFTY FIVE," which is a great way to end a life-changing listening experience.

"Separation Team" is a careful look at sound, mood, and emotion that lasts just over an hour. Siren Section has made an album that is both hard and rewarding. This album is a bold claim from a duo that consistently pushes the boundaries of glitchgaze and post-punk experimentation. With "Separation Team," Siren Section not only makes a triumphant return to the full-length format, but it also sets a new standard for what can be done when creativity, emotion, and sound mastery come together.
