Allan Jamisen unveils a dreamlike late-night sound in “This Is Not an Act”

Phoenix-based composer and painter Allan Jamisen has released “This Is Not an Act,” his adventurous sonic broadstroke that ventures beyond traditional song structure into an art-motivated, tightly constructed sound canvas following the evolution of both his musical work and fine art. Jamisen digs deeper into movie storytelling here, creating a listening experience that unfurls palpably over time and intention, like a scene in an after-hours flick.

Co-produced with veteran producer and engineer John X Volaitis, the track sinks into a full-bodied production. Gentle, wandering saxophone lines glide through the arrangement while soft flute details dance around shadowy electronic textures, creating a dreamlike, star-lit atmosphere. The production has a gentle haziness, as if the music were located halfway between memory and daydream.

Jamisen’s spoken-word delivery, however, is at the heart of the piece, and it shifts with quiet intensity. The singing flows through it, balancing moments of sensual confidence with moments of reflective vulnerability. The effect is both intimate and expansive, pulling a listener further into the immersive world of the song. “This Is Not an Act” is another bold chapter in Allan Jamisen’s genre-bending journey, a track that asks listeners not just to listen to the music but to enter it.
