ReeToxA's second album, "SOLILOQUY," is a huge, deeply personal double-album statement that shows an artist pushing himself to the limit and beyond. The album was made during the COVID pandemic, when recording plans fell through and there was a lot of uncertainty. It became a way to keep creating. Jason is working on a project that feels both huge and unfiltered, using memories, fears, and harsh truths from his whole life. He lives on little more than cigarettes, coffee, and raw determination.
"SOLILOQUY" makes it clear that it is a long rock journey, made even better by the strong presence of a European orchestra. The mix of these styles gives the album a cinematic depth, turning personal reflection into something big and immersive. "INSATIABLE" and "AKAROA" have a sense of urgency, while "BOTTLE" and "ALCOHOL 2" dive right into themes of struggle and self-confrontation, not afraid to sit in discomfort.
The album's songs has a wide range of emotions. "DANCING WITH LOU" and "THRIFT SHOP DRESS" tell stories with a lot of detail, using vivid memories to do so. "THE LISA SONG" and "JOSEPHINE," on the other hand, tell stories with a more personal, almost haunting tenderness. The orchestral parts come and go, making moments like "GOWN" and "TRUCE," where weakness and strength meet, feel more powerful.
In the middle of the album, it changes to a more experimental and reflective style. "JADE EYES," "DEMAND PERFECTION," and "ERICA AND THE STARS" all deal with inner conflict in a deep, layered way. "TIMOR LESTE" and "STARE AT THE SEA" both make you feel like you're looking for clarity in wide open spaces. The unpredictability continues with "SCHITZO WALTZ," which stands out in both structure and mood and shows that the album won't fit in.
The last part is nothing short of defiant. "LOVE KEEPS BURNING STILL" and "YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN ME" mix feelings of regret with strength, which leads to the strong resolve of "WAR KILLER" and "GIRLS ROCK." When "STRONG" and "ALRIGHT" end the journey, there is a feeling of survival, not neat resolution.
"SOLILOQUY" is an album and a record of staying strong under stress. ReeToxA turns loneliness into orchestral rock catharsis, giving us a bold, free-flowing body of work that doesn't shy away from the past while rushing headlong into the future.
