Tulsa-based folk singer-songwriter Micah Felts is back with a contemplative, deeply personal collection on his second EP, "I Don't Know How To Write A Song." The six-track EP highlights Felts' growing artistic confidence, while also embracing the openness that makes great songwriting. The EP clocks in at just under 20 minutes and is an engaging listen that feels intimate and purposeful from beginning to end.
Opening with "Silver Lining" immediately sets the warm, reflective tone that pervades the project. The track sets the tone for a collection grounded in honest storytelling and understated musical craftsmanship. "Rivers," with Callan Brown, broadens the emotional scope with a collaborative energy that feels natural and complementary, and "Get To You" maintains the momentum with a sense of determination and heartfelt sincerity. Together, these songs show Felts' ability to create music that is both personal and universally relatable.
The middle of the EP is where it really shines with "Pink Clouds," a standout track that has already been getting some recognition thanks to a sync placement in CBS's Sheriff Country. Its memorable presence illustrates Felts' gift for writing songs that reach outside the usual folk crowd. "Mountains" follows in a grounded, reflective spirit, further deepening the emotional arc of the project and reinforcing the songwriting's consistency throughout the release.
The EP comes to a head on the title track, "I Don't Know How To Write A Song." The song speaks volumes about Felts' songwriting prowess, a fact that was recognized when it was awarded the 2026 Jimmy LaFave Songwriting Contest sponsored by the Red Dirt Relief Fund in Oklahoma. As the final track, it makes an impact and serves as a fitting end to an EP that strikes a balance between humility, authenticity, and artistic growth.
Produced by Sam Westhoff and Jesse Perdue and recorded in Nashville and Tulsa, "I Don't Know How To Write A Song" is a compelling folk release that firmly establishes Micah Felts as an independent artist with a distinctive voice and a promising creative future.
