David Scott Weaver turns conviction into compelling artistry on new EP, "Songs of Hope and Resistance"

David Scott Weaver is back with a deeply resonant statement in the form of "Songs of Hope and Resistance," a seven-track EP that mixes Americana, folk, bluegrass, gospel, and rock into a compelling soundtrack for turbulent times. The EP features an incredible array of celebrated collaborators and musicians, but Weaver’s songwriting vision is the driving force behind this powerful collection. The EP is a just-over-twenty-two-minute exercise in thoughtful social commentary, resolve, and hope, a reminder that music can still challenge, inspire, and bring together.

The EP opens with the striking “Everything That Jesus Wouldn't Do,” a bold and thought-provoking introduction that instantly sets the tone for the record. “I Don’t Want Your Billions, Mister” comes in on a clear-eyed critique of power and inequality, while “Fight the Fascists” is one of the release’s most urgent and fearless moments. Weaver writes songs that are driven by substance, conviction, and memorable songwriting. The instrumentation throughout is also impressive. Rich textures that elevate every performance are created by acoustic guitars, dobro, pedal steel, mandolin, banjo, and a small choir. “We Cannot Bend” is a powerful statement of resilience, further testament to the EP’s unyielding spirit.

“I Still Have Hope” and “Lift Up Your Voice” radiate warmth and encouragement, a sense of possibility in the face of uncertainty.
