Divergent revives the spirit of classic rock with explosive energy on “Rev It Up”

Divergent has brought the spirit of classic rock roaring back to life with "Rev It Up," an eight-track album that draws on 1970s rock grandeur while embracing hard-hitting anthems, soulful melodies, and story-driven songwriting. Produced by Jason Peets and recorded at the legendary Sweetwater Studios in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the roughly 40-minute release speaks volumes for a band that is determined to stretch rock and roll beyond one formula.

The title track, "Rev It Up," sets the tone with its high-octane automotive rock identity and gets a lift from an official music video directed by HIP Video Productions that features a classic-car theme. "Give Her Love" turns dark, dealing with the painful reality of a woman stuck in an abusive relationship. "I Really Want to Love You (So Bad)" adds a more tender dimension with piano- and cymbal-driven arrangements, framing romantic longing and a softer emotional atmosphere.

"Out of Love," told from the viewpoint of a wealthy narrator drawn to desire and excess but unwilling to commit, shifts the perspective again. It's an anti-love song, and adds a more cynical edge to the album's exploration of relationships. The remaining tracks, "Morning Light", "The Wise Man", "You Give Me This Feeling" and "Shine On", round out the eight-song collection, extending its thematic scope beyond the stories introduced by the first four songs.

Divergent's musical identity draws on a wide range of influences, from The Beatles and Queen to Whitesnake, Kansas, Boston, and Van Halen. The result is a classic 1970s hard rock record with room for melodic and soulful contrasts. The band moves between driving rock energy and more reflective songwriting. Divergent delivers an arena-ready release built around rock tradition and varied emotional perspectives with "Rev It Up." It celebrates the timelessness of guitar music, but allows the album to be defined by contrasting moods and stories.
