FORRM mixes experimental rock, moving images, and contemporary art on "LIVE IN NYC ( MUSEUM OF ARTS & DESIGN 12.12.24 )," a live album chronicling the collective's December 2024 performance at New York's Museum of Arts and Design. The release is not a live concert recording but an archival moment in the group's evolution, a performance that helped cement the definitive lineup of musicians behind the project.
The event was part of a series of nomadic exhibitions and performances developed around the Nomads of Persia project by Firouz FarmanFarmaian. The performance at the Museum of Arts and Design was a confluence of musical experimentation, cinema and contemporary visual arts within this larger artistic context. Its importance lies in the convergence of creative fields that formed the experience.
The performance was anchored in the Nomad's Prayer, created in conversation with the film PATH by FarmanFarmaian. The work also served as the soundtrack to the award-winning film and formed the basis for an expanded live audiovisual presentation. Integrating experimental rock with FarmanFarmaian's imagery and material from PATH, FORRM turned the concert into an environment where sound and visuals conversed directly.
The presentation blurred the traditional separation between performers and projected imagery. The performance generated and controlled visuals live, appearing directly in front of the musicians, so that image, sound and physical presence could occupy the same space. This incorporation helped to turn the concert into an artistic collaboration, rather than a simple musical performance with a film accompaniment.
FORRM is a defining intersection of music, film and contemporary art. "LIVE IN NYC ( MUSEUM OF ARTS & DESIGN 12.12.24 )." Taken from Nomad's Prayer and the larger Nomads of Persia project, the release is an enduring document of an ambitious performance and the creative configuration that would inform the band's subsequent work.
