Music by Jeremy finds fresh meaning in life’s unanswered questions on “Scenes from a Well Worn Path (Side Three)”

Music by Jeremy takes a thoughtful turn with "Scenes from a Well Worn Path (Side Three)," the third installment of a 24-track, four-part double album conceived as an autobiography told through significant scenes. In six tracks and 20 minutes and 15 seconds, the album shifts the perspective established by its predecessors, moving away from inward reflection to examine the wider world through questions, observations, and carefully constructed musical ideas.

Side Three makes space for uncertainty and interpretation. This is especially true in the contrast between "No Price on Earth," "I Don't Know," and "Economic Possibilities for Our Grandchildren," three works that offer different entry points to questions of worth, self-knowledge, and common wealth. The album's conceptual strength lies in its willingness to grapple with complicated subjects through songwriting.

What sets "Economic Possibilities for Our Grandchildren" apart is that it takes its title from a 1930 essay by John Maynard Keynes and opens with a line from Shakespeare's Macbeth. The main idea is to examine how abundance came about and how its benefits were captured. It translates ideas from history and economics into a modern-day songwriting context. "I Don't Know" takes an unusual approach to the love song, turning its emotional theme into a mathematical proof of sorts that ultimately fails. This tension between intellectual structure and human uncertainty adds an interesting conceptual layer to the album.

"How Much is Enough," "Market Square," and "The Letter" complete the six-piece set, continuing the project's broader spirit of questioning. Together, these tracks suggest a concern with sufficiency, public life, and personal communication, without reducing the album to one theme. The songs are built around tight three-to-three-and-a-half-minute arrangements, balancing sharp songwriting with ideas that reward repeat listens. It suits quiet, vocal-forward playlists, but can still work with fuller production.

Music by Jeremy's music continues an ambitious autobiographical project by looking beyond the self. With "Scenes from a Well Worn Path (Side Three)," the result is a concise, idea-driven collection that invites reflection, rather than demanding concurrence.
