Thanks to some leaked court documents and grave allegations, the Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert drama has reached a new high or low, depending on which side you fall on. The former NBA player is defending himself against Taylor's accusations, saying he leaked private details of their divorce to the press to further his music career.
On Wednesday (March 19), Shumpert dismissed the allegations via his attorney, Stephen C. Steele.
"Never has my client, Mr. Iman Shumpert, leaked any allegations or claims contained in any of the pleadings whatsoever," Steele said in a statement to TMZ Sports. "Mr. Shumpert vehemently denies that he has given any information to any media."
The former NBA star's lawyers wanted the world to know that Shumpert wasn't the person leaking any of the sensitive information to the press. His lawyer added that "specifically, but without limitation," he denies leaking information that "may have formed the basis" for the multiple news reports leading up to the trial of this matter.
Taylor, who sought a divorce last year, sees things differently. Not only has she accused Shumpert of leaking private court documents, but she claims he has been calculated in how he's leaked them to the public. According to Taylor, the documents emerged immediately after she shared images alongside actor Aaron Pierre after the 2025 Oscars. Coincidence? She doesn't think so.
The leak was an intentional effort to generate controversy, follow a narrative flip through the ages, and was ultimately an effort to provide free press to Shumpert's newest rap release, Taylor says. But that wasn't all. She also claimed that she had evidence that Shumpert paid people to disseminate information about their divorce online.
Taylor is demanding a 20-day jail term and significant fines for Shumpert in her legal petition, contending that he has put her in the line of fire, 'saving her from massive public ridicule and swinging tide of hateful 'torrent' online.'
Another key issue? Taylor wants to set the record straight about the couple's asset division. She rejected the suggestion that she and Shumpert had ever agreed to a formal "settlement," adding that the court divided their property in July 2024.
She also alleged that when she confronted Shumpert about how their private information had made its way into the press, he feigned ignorance and refused to admit wrongdoing.
However, while the petition is now in the court's hands, the thrall is not settled. The forthcoming hearings will decide if Shumpert faces any consequences for the alleged leaks. In the meantime, both sides are locked in a public and legal battle, with fans and the media watching closely. The one-time couple may have been relationship goals, but their breakup has not been so easy. This messy divorce is far from over, and the court is set to weigh in.
