Lightcap's All-Stars has got you covered when you need a rock song that clicks on all cylinders with their newest tune, "YES." This raucous track, performed by the formidable band Bad Daddy, distills the experience that everyone faces in the search for reassurance from a partner, only to be blasted with a tidal wave of incessant negativity.
"YES" encapsulates the frustration of a man wanting a tiny bit of positivity from his girlfriend. But he's also stuck in a cyclone of frustration fighting against an attitude seemingly locked in "no" mode, and the lyrics and vocal work ooze confusion, not anger, with another emotionally moving anthem that most people can relate to. A single gritty Stratocaster doubling the bass line gives the track an element of raw power, their buzzing tones playing off each other intensely with an earth-shaking groove so infectious people are bound to pay your song attention.
"YES" was laid down at Bad Daddy Studios in Northern California, one of the best recording jockeys in the area, with a killer cast of musicians who delivered on the performance. Mark Lightcap holds down lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Bruce Marelich delivers blistering electric guitar riffs. Late great Scott Hilke (R.I.P) anchors the bass with deadpan grit. At the same time, Vinnie Carini's thunderous drums (and accompanying vocals) do full justice to the band: Cole Spohr further enriches the harmonies, complementing the song's robust sound. If you've ever been trapped in a cycle of perpetual negativity, this anthem has you screaming "YES" as life tells you "no."
