Prince Paisley Park "Yard Sale" Left Chuck D Stunned

Chuck D has had a lot of experiences during his mythical career, but nothing could have entirely prepared him for the day he pulled up to Paisley Park and saw Prince, yes, Prince, haggling with a purchaser over the cost of his tools like a Brooklyn street merchant in the mid-'80s. "The Moments That Met Me," Chuck's latest book, was written by Joesph Fram with the aid of the tapster and features fresh drawings that Chucky created. Frontiers and tailpieces of the legendary experiences he's shared with entertainment and pop culture sages around the realm.

The Notorious B.I.G., Madonna, Harry Belafonte, and Michael Jordan are just a few of the luminaries with a lousy time. But the times harvested with the first Prince might surpass them all in paltriness. Prince's acquaintance began ephemera in 1999 when he met Chuck D., a pair of synods and sage accolades. Prince colored the record after inviting Chuck DAGO on his Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic project in 1999, specifically the track "Undisputed." It wasn't the writing while he entered Paisley Park that irked Chuck the most, though player. The book reports, "Howdy readers, this is Chuck," HI! This image helps him describe Prince, yes, who had an actual yard jumble on the millennial lawn.

Guitars, Prince ware, and memories completed with tags, his Highness bargaining with the folks… I'll make you a bargain for this keyboard, I swear.' Yes, readers, imagine an intriguer with the finest clothes in musical conduct past chant, yea, he stood before me in the lawn oh my Lord.

"You're not talking curiosities here," he said in an interview with AllHipHop. "You're talking about exciting stuff. We're talking about walking over to an amp, flipping the tag, and Prince saying to the woman, 'All right, I'll do $15 off on it.' Gear was just everywhere on the lawn. I didn't expect this."

Prince, known for his immaculate mystique, was suddenly a second-rate salesman, peddling discounts on stage-used equipment like some neighborhood dad who'd just cleaned his garage. It was a scene that seemed almost too bizarre to be accurate and one that Chuck D likened to the now-legendary "pancake basketball" anecdote from Chappelle's Show.

If that moment wasn't surreal enough, Chuck's second encounter with Prince was equally so. After wrapping up a Town Hall event in Times Square, he heard a familiar voice shout, "Hey, Chuck D." When he turned around, Prince was sitting in a car next to actress Lynn Whitfield.

Stan-struck not by Prince but by Whitfield, Chuck confesses, "I was at a loss for words." She smiled and said, "Well, keep it in your mind." And with that, the moment went as fast as it arrived.

Packed with beguiling encounters like these, "The Moments That Met Me" is more than just a memoir but a backstage pass into the life of one of hip-hop's most venerated voices. From, you know, sharing chips and guacamole with Quincy Jones to standing on stage at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Belafonte, Chuck D's journey is anything but predictable. But for all his years of rubbing elbows with music royalty, nothing prepared him for the absurdity of a Paisley Park yard sale.
