Unsurprisingly, Rihanna turned labor and delivery into a high-fashion affair. The global superstar and Fenty mogul casually set the internet ablaze over the weekend when she shared that she gave birth to both sons while dripping in pearls and rocking sunglasses. Yes, you read that right. While most new moms may be focused on hospital gowns and ice chips, Rihanna was busy delivering couture-level maternity glam.
The "Diamonds" singer marked the occasion with a post on social media, sharing the news on International Women's Day while posting two never-before-seen photos of her babies and, of course, her unmatched delivery room aesthetic. Along with longtime partner and rap sensation A$AP Rocky, Rihanna showed again why she's a living legend.
In one memorable image, Rihanna holds her firstborn, RZA, just after his birth in May 2022. Instead of the usual disheveled post-birth look, the Barbadian queen chose a stack of bling: a pearl choker set gloriously with diamonds, gold chains layered casually, and a big gold medallion necklace.
Unfittingly, she took things to the next level with the arrival of her second son, Riot Rose, named in August 2023. This time, she brought some oversized pink sunglasses, a sign that the arrival of a new human hadn't diminished her star power.
Admitting her delivery room ensembles were over the top, Rihanna jokingly captioned her post, "And yes I gave birth in pearls and sunglasses... doesn't, a lot was happening. The internet went instantly berserk.
Within hours, the post garnered more than eight million likes, with fans and celebrities rushing to the comments section to pay their respects to her next-level fashion game. Pop superstar Katy Perry declared it "the BEST," TV host Padma Lakshmi described what we were all thinking: "always dazzling." Journalist Elaine Welteroth joked that Rihanna was the undisputed queen, "Addie even during birth! Why we love you so much."
This, of course, is not the first time Rihanna has rewritten the rules of motherhood. Throughout both pregnancies, she completely rewrote the maternity fashion rule book, embracing sheer fabrics, crop tops, and designer outfits that showed off her changing figure. Now, it's making it known that devotion to glamour never ends.
Beyond the fashion statement, Rihanna also took time to reflect on the power of motherhood, writing, "By far the most powerful thing I've ever done as a woman… my little miracles!"
For some time, fans have admired Rihanna for balancing vulnerability with unapologetic confidence. She is a business mogul, a music icon, and is now the blueprint for delivery room glam. And though few of us will ever embrace childbirth in pearls and designer shades, it is clear that one thing will never change if Rihanna is doing a thing; she will do it her way, and quite frankly, we never want it any other way.
