Trey Songz made headlines for all the wrong reasons after he had a surprise encounter with an overly excited fan at his Millennium Tour show in Greensboro, North Carolina, over the weekend. Singing in the sultry style of his hit “When We Make Love,” at one point, an unexpected guest tried to join him on stage, and things got a little messy.
When Songz got lost in the music, a male fan suddenly charged the stage, trying to throw an arm around the R&B star. But Trey wasn’t having it. Without missing a beat, he quickly pushed the intruder away while continuing to hold the melody. Security immediately leaped to action, tackling the fan and escorting him offstage.
Despite the strange supersession, Songz continued the show as if nothing had transpired. But the internet was much less accommodating. It only took users on social media seconds to roast Trey for his reaction to the comment, turning the video into a sympathy meme within minutes. Many seized on his defensive posture, which came off as more awkward than intimidating.
“The stance is one thing, but to keep singing is even more crazy,” one user joked. “I needed this laugh today.”
Another wrote, “This is not what Kendrick meant when he said ‘squabble up.’ ”
Of course, not all the reactions were lighthearted. Others used the moment to highlight Songz’s checkered past by noting that when it comes to men, he seemingly can hold his own, starkly contrasting the grave accusations that have trailed him over the years.
“He clearly isn’t used to squaring up with men because what was that?” one person wrote, alluding to the singer’s long history of misconduct allegations.
Trey Songz has faced multiple allegations over the years, including accusations of sexual coercion, intimidation, and assault. He was accused of “sexual intimidation” by the actress Keke Palmer in 2017, and in 2018, a $20 million lawsuit was filed against him. More recently, he faced assault charges stemming from an altercation in 2024 at a bowling alley, while a separate sexual assault investigation conducted in 2022 in Las Vegas was dropped without charges.
Although those accusations loom over his legacy, Trey tried to steer his narrative back toward laughs. He then posted a meme of the Power Rangers to Instagram Stories, set to Kendrick Lamar’s “Squabble Up,” apparently parodying his reaction to the stage crasher.
Trey Songz’s response was awkward or well-deserved as it was another viral moment, courtesy of the internet. Whether people were laughing at his fighting stance, amused by his commitment to the act , or taking the time to use the moment to drive home serious conversations about his past, the internet never forgets, and Trey Songz has just been given a new meme to join the race with.
