Trippie Redd might be known for his genre-bending music and out-there persona, but his most recent headline has nothing to do with his career as a rapper and everything to do with a herd of pink plastic birds. The Ohio-bred rapper, who has a jet-black house in the affluent Miami suburb of Southwest Ranches, was at odds with his neighbors after a longstanding community fundraiser landed on his front lawn.
The "Getting Flocked" fundraiser is a local tradition that some would call lighthearted: A resident's yard gets filled with bright pink flamingos as part of a charitable effort. The concept is simple: The recipient receives "flocked," then selects the next target and, if feeling generous, donates to a student scholarship fund. It's all in good fun.
But when Trippie Redd awoke to find his lawn taken over by a neon invasion, he didn't exactly welcome the joke. Rather than humorously play along or pass down the tradition, the rapper reportedly rounded up the whole flock and haphazardly threw them in the garbage.
"Trippie lives here, and the other day we thought, how funny would it be to flock him," one resident told All Hip Hop. "And he took every one of the plastic flamingos and threw them in the trash."
Since then, the incident has led to some neighborhood drama. "It's all in good fun, and it's for a great cause," another resident who knew about the fundraiser said. "Most people are like, 'This is dope' and send it on, but I guess Trippie wasn't vibing with it."
Though Trippie Redd has not publicly weighed in on or even confirmed the situation, his decision has already made waves in the otherwise silent, high-profile-filled neighborhood. But the "Getting Flocked" fundraiser is alive and well despite the hiccup. Residents are already plotting their next high-profile target, though they might think twice before selecting one known for resisting neighborhood tricks.
In the meantime, Trippie Redd has other plans. He and the rapper Coi Leray are expecting a child together, so he will have more than flamingos to keep him busy shortly. As for the trashed birds? They probably won't return to his lawn anytime soon.
